If you wish to transfer property out of a living trust, or even deal with trust assets, a bank or other institution may wish to see a copy of your living trust agreement to verify your authority and power to deal with the trust assets.
If you don’t want to provide them with a copy of the living trust agreement, you can instead provide them with a document known as a certification, certificate, abstract or memorandum of trust.
This document gives the institutions the information they need without you having to provide them with sensitive information such as details of the assets in the living trust, details of the beneficiaries, details of the gifts, etc.
A certification of trust is almost universally accepted in place of an entire trust document. EstateBee’s certification of trust can be used in most cases. It’s best to check with the institution as to whether they have particular requirements before presenting a specific form.
